Frequently Asked Questions

What is IBT?

A motorcycle IBT (Initial Basic Training) in Ireland is a mandatory, modular training course for learner riders, designed by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) to teach essential skills and improve safety, covering theory, off-road, and on-road riding, and is required before you can legally ride on public roads or get insurance/tax for a motorcycle. It's broken down into programs depending on the bike category, with instructors issuing a completion certificate after each module or the full course. See https://www.rsa.ie/ for more information.

Do you provide gear for the lessons?

Yes, we provide helmets, gloves, and other gear for your lessons to ensure your safety and comfort.

How to book an IBT course?

To book your place please pay €100 deposit via Revolut. Balance is due on the first day of training. Contact me on WhatsApp 0879889940 for details.

What types of motorcycles are available for test rental?

We offer the following bikes to rent for your motorcycle test, A, A2, A1 and A1 Auto.

Prepare your motorcycle for your driving test?

You must:

  • supply a vehicle for the driving test that is consistent with any restrictions noted on your learner permit
  • make sure your vehicle is a  representative vehicle for your driving test
  • be insured to ride it
  • display a valid, original motor tax disc
  • produce your vehicle registration certificate
  • wear all the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), i.e. helmet, gloves, boots and weather-gear
  • have L-plates no less than 15 cm high in red on a white background and in good condition, on the front and back of a yellow fluorescent tabard worn over your outer clothing
  • make sure that your vehicle is fitted with functioning and adequate brake and, amber when lit indicator lights
  • have documentation in relation to your motorcycle engine size and power output. For all motorcycle and moped tests, bring your vehicle registration certificate (VRC) with you. The VRC must show the power output in section (P.2). If this is blank or if .5555 is shown here, you will need to contact the Vehicle Registration Unit in Shannon to arrange for your VRC to be updated to show the power output of your motorcycle.
  • If your vehicle is restricted, have proof of Restriction on headed notepaper from a relevant dealer or official importer of the particular make of motorcycle, showing the restricted KW output and the registration number.  (Note, original KW output cannot be restricted by more than 50%)

Paul FitzGerald is a fantastic Training Instructor. His teaching style is relaxed when you need it to be, but professional, insightful and full of learnings at the same time. Perfect balance! Paul gave me a Pre-Test Lesson a few days before the Test today and Paul played a key role in helping me feel confident and prepared. I passed my A-Category...! Thanks Paul!
